Mid-Century Furniture
The MassModern Gallery features original luxury residential furniture and other decorative arts of the mid-20th Century. We focus on those moments when the era’s greatest designers intersected with the period’s finest producers.
Our Gallery Director, Peter Kelley, has written and lectured extensively about iconic American furniture collections, including Eliel Saarinen’s 1939 “Flexible Home Arrangements,” Frank Lloyd Wright’s “Taliesin Ensemble” for Henredon in 1955, and Milo Baughman’s work for Thayer Coggin throughout the 60’s and 70’s. Peter has also broadly researched more mainstream groups of the era, and we maintain a supply of these more moderately priced items in a collection we call “Main Street by MassModern.”
Peter came to Boston in 1987 to build and manage the Baker Furniture showroom at the Boston Design Center. MassModern was started in 2004 as a natural extension of that experience. Peter’s perspective on the historical arc of American furniture design is often called upon by national media such as Atomic Ranch and Antique Week.
